Popular sandwich chain Subway donated $22,500 to the world’s largest student-run philanthropy, THON, and its beneficiary, the Four Diamonds, according to Penn State News. The participating restaurants made the donation official when they collectively presented a check to THON and Four Diamonds officials Thursday at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
The funds come as a result of the “Cookie That Cares” promotion, a month-long campaign that donated a portion of the proceeds made from each cookie sold to charity. The fundraiser took place across more than 300 Subway restaurants in the area, which sold almost 297,000 cookies for the cause. Subway, which is certainly a prominent sandwich shop, join the ranks of hundreds of other student organizations and businesses to raise money for THON. The $22,500 will add to this year’s total amount donated to the Four Diamonds, which is already at more than $9 million.
